50 things to do before you are 11¾
50 things to do before you are 11¾ is a challenge that has been set by the National Trust and is a great way to enjoy the outdoors with your kids. Mind you it’s also a great list to have a wander down memory lane and figure out how many of those activities you did as a child too!
We started our 50 things list about 18 months ago and as and when I have remembered, I have updated it.
It looks like we’re half way and only have another 3 years or so to tick the other 22 or so things off our list before our eldest son reaches the 11¾ bit!
Now, to be honest, I myself, have never played a grass trumpet and so I really should get a move on learning how to do that. Or perhaps I should get the boys to figure it out and they can teach me. I also need to figure out what bouldering is – if anyone knows and can let me know the answer…that would be helpful!
Some things which aren’t on the list but possibly should be considered for inclusion :
- Ride a bike
- Whistle with your mouth (or fingers..I can’t do the fingers one myself!)
- Playing Pooh sticks
Those are just a few that come to mind… how about you? Any others you think should be added to the list?
Oh yes, definitely Pooh Sticks! We love that game 🙂

Maybe we should start a petition to get it added 😉 x
Bouldering in it’s pure form is rock climbing without any harnesses – link here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouldering. For kids it generally means scrambling over the large rocks often found at the base of cliffs or on moorlands. My boys love doing it on the rocks around us.
My eldest boy is 12 today so I’ll have to go and see how many of the 50 things he has managed … and maybe squeeze in a few more before he becomes a teenager!

Thanks for that Rosie! In that case…we can probably tick another one off. Have fun going through the list and if there are any on there you haven’t done…I would just change the age to 13 and 3/4 or something like that 😉
I don’t know if it’s already on the list but rolling down a grassy hill sounds like a good one to me! #CountryKids
Hi Alexandra – just checked and they have it at number 2…so they definitely agree with you on that one 🙂
I can’t believe pooh sticks isn’t on the list! I love the 50 things list 🙂 #CountryKids

Thanks for stopping by! It’s taken me a while to clock onto the missing Pooh Stix 🙂 x
Pooh sticks is a must – you can even go and play it on the actual bridge where Christopher Robin is said to have played it on Ashdown Forest (aka the Hundred Acre Wood).

I’ve been to that bridge a few times when I have been down that end of the world – it’s beautiful. We haven’t taken the boys there yet though
I definitely agree that pooh sticks and whistling should have been on the list! Well done for making such progress so far! Good luck with the bouldering – I’m sure they will enjoy it. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.

Thanks for having me over Fiona! I found my first official geocache yesterday just down the road from us …so may be bouldering more in the summer when we look for more!
Yes, definitely would add pooh sticks 🙂
Seems like a popular vote – just may have to get in touch with the NT 🙂
I love the “50 things” list and really must start keeping track when we do things with the girls. It will take several years before we check everything off I think, as some of them are only good for older kids I think!
Pooh sticks is an appalling omission – it should be added immediately! I have some wonderful childhood memories of playing it with my family on holidays & days out.

Our boys adore pooh sticks – any chance they get and we’re racing away.
