5 WordPress plugins I love

Mumof2_5things_badge, wordpress plugins, mumof2, mum of 2

This week’s #5 things from Mumof2  are my top WordPress plugins :

  1. CommentLuv – Andy Bailey.
This is one of the nicest plugins because it allows visitors who have a blog to choose what link they would like to leave. It’s free (bonus!)
  2. Jetpack by WordPress.com – Automattic
I stumbled across Jetpack and have found it to be really user friendly. It has loads of nifty features which means that a new blogger/wordpress.org owner doesn’t have to be a techy to start using it. It’s free (bonus!)
  3. WordPress SEO – Joost de Valk
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the latest buzz word in the world of the tinterweb. This is my latest find and I am loving learning along the way and discovering how much work I need to do on Mumof2 – but I am happy as my brain is enjoying the figuring out process. It’s free (bonus!) and easy to install as a wordpress plugin.
  4. Sucuri Security – Sucuri Security
Well – I like making sure things are tight and Sucuri is quick and tells me straight off if something is not right. I like the way it lists google etc and lets you know whether you are blacklisted etc. (I am not blacklisted – just to let you know and I don’t know what it would entail if you are!). It’s free (bonus!)
  5. Akismet – Automattic
I don’t like spam and people taking advantage and leaving links or dodgy sites. Akismet generally takes care of that and so I don’t have to trawl through comments and delete the ones that are just dumping links. You do have to pay for the subscription but in this case I think it’s worth it!

Mumof2_5things_badgeThis week’s #5 things from Mumof2 :

  1. Coconuts kill more people each year than sharks do. Apparently, around about 150 people are killed by coconuts each year.
  2. I somehow managed to hit the triple zero club this week on twitter…thank you to everyone who followed.
  3. I miss running to the window every time the windows started rattling and you could hear that the Concorde was about to fly by. It was a sad day when they were all retired.
  4. Vanilla paste is the latest craze in my baking cupboard. A friend recommended it the other week and I just love it. Think I may favour it over the extract at the moment.
  5. I am going to give planking a go – I reckoned if I wrote it down here….then I am going to have to stick to it and properly give it a try. Check back as I am sure I will end up blogging about the experience (good or bad!)

Mumof2_5things_badgeThis week’s #5 things from Mumof2 :

  1. When Neil Armstrong returned from the moon, he had to go through US Customs (who would have thought!)
  2. I went to find some Halloween outfits for the boys as this year they asked if they could trick or treat and there are only really scary things to dress up. I mentioned this to my supportive husband and he looked as if to say ‘ It’s Halloween….what did you think you would find?’. I meant to say – I am looking for cute not scary for age 5 & 7. So my search continues
  3. I read somewhere that zebras are actually black with white stripes -I would love to know how they got to that conclusion and not white with black stripes.
  4. I love how the boys have now put a sign on their door that requests anyone to give them a code to get in. The code is stuck on the back of the door and contains MANY numbers. So I was with them on the passage side of the door and they demanded I give the passcode…so when I gave them a number they told me to wait and they opened the door to check if it was on the other side. It took a good couple of guesses to carry on getting it wrong 😉
  5. I find the light out on the roads at dusk changes at this time of the year.

#5 things

Mumof2_5things_badgeThis week’s #5 things from Mumof2 :

  1. My blog has just recently turned 1 and I can’t believe it’s been a whole year and I am still learning the ropes!
  2. I have secretly turned the heating on for longer as it’s suddenly feeling a lot chillier – have no idea how long it will be before my supportive husband clocks on but have a feeling if he does he will leave it be as he mentioned it is a bit chilly.
  3. I love the buzz of learning new things (especially when it takes me an entire day to create something on Mumof2 that looks simple yet has taken a lot of testing and making mistakes but works in the end!)
  4. I love that feeling when you have the first sip of tea or coffee and all is right with the world.
  5. I love the smell of newly cut grass. I could stand and just sniff away and never get enough of the earthy grassiness.

#5 things

Mumof2_5things_badgeThis week’s #5 things from Mumof2 :

  1. The word SWIMS looks the same backwards and upside down.
  2. There are some amazingly good people in this world.
  3. Believe them when they say you can’t please all the people all the time
  4. Those scented diffusers have something weird in them – our boys bumped a full one over the table (thankfully it had a plastic cloth on) but I only realised this after school drop off and coudn’t understand what the strong scent was. The table cloth is all shrivelled in places like something was eating the plastic. Mind you the lounge at least smells nice albeit a bit strong!
  5. Camels have 3 eyelids

#5 things

Mumof2_5things_badgeThis week’s #5 things from Mumof2 :

    1. Rationalising with a 7 year old is sometimes harder than getting a mortgage with the bank! I am slowly thinking the teenage years are going to involve UN peace keeping type negotiations!
    2. You can get to the number 1000 by adding eight 8’s (ask me how if you want to know the answer…baffled me for a bit)
    3. I am quite a geek … sometimes
    4. Your imagination is limited by your experience
    5. There is nothing like the smell of the ocean.

An interesting wrinkle

interestingwrinkle

Every now and then I hear a word or saying and think ‘hmm – I quite like the sound of that’ or ‘that rings true for me’ and I quickly type it up on a notepad and just keep it there for a while. Then somewhere along the line I forget that I have written it down but happen across it either when doing a rare tidy up or clear out of files.

I heard the term ‘interesting wrinkle’ somewhere along the line in the last couple of months and wish I can remember the context and where. I suppose it doesn’t really matter as I love the positive spin it puts on growing older (and in theory growing wiser).

We all try and stay as young as possible and when the wrinkles start appearing, we look to anti-aging creams (or in some cases face lifts or other drastic measures) to try and slow their success in remaining on our skin. But – each of those wrinkles tells a story -sometimes happy and sometimes sad – and with each story there is a lesson.

I remember somewhere someone saying ‘Wisdom comes from experience and experience comes when you learn from your mistakes’
